DIY Paper Clip Ribbon Bookmarks
- a piece of grosgrain ribbon 4 inches long (I love the pretty polka dot pattern on this grosgrain ribbon)
- a large paper clip
1. Prepare the Ribbon
Start with a 4 inch piece of ribbon and cut the ends into a little V shape. Then overlap the ends, as show in the picture below. Notice that the top of the loop has the patterned side, but the back side of the ribbon ends should be facing you (the side without the pattern).
2. Get the Ribbon in Place
Next, you are going to slide the overlapped ends though the paper clip. Make sure you don’t slide it through the part of the paper clip that opens (that part of the paper clip should be on the bottom). You should still see the back side of the ribbon ends facing you.
Then you need to start pulling the ends up through the ribbon loop in the front. Now you will see the pretty front side of the ribbon.
3. Finish the Bookmark
The last step is to check the ends of the ribbon before pulling the knot tight. Turn the ends so that the nice sides of the ribbon are facing toward each other, then pull the knot tight. This will help the ribbon to form the cute V shape with the patterned side facing forward. (If you accidentally skipped this step, your bookmark will not have a V on top. In that case, just loosen your knot so you can go back and fix the ribbon so the nice sides are together before pulling it tight again.)
These simple little bookmarks add a pop of cuteness to your books and journals! All you need is a piece of ribbon and a paper clip to make these little cuties. Now I’m sure you’ll want to take a couple minutes (since that’s all it takes!) to whip up your own set of DIY paper clip ribbon bookmarks!
