I love art that includes my daughter’s sweet little handprints and footprints. As she grows, I will want to look back and remember how tiny she once was. I have been excited to make this adorable love handprint canvas painting with her and knew it would turn out so cute!
This project has been on my to do list for a while, ever since I saw adorable projects using handprints and footprints to write “love” on Pinterest. I wanted to incorporate some pretty lettering on the canvas, and she is so sweet and little right now, so the words were perfect! If you would like to make a “Sweet Little Love handprint canvas, here’s how.
- Canvas (I used an 8 by 10)
- Safe, non-toxic paint in the colors of your choosing (I used pink, aqua, and purple)
- pencil and eraser
1. Handprints and Footprints
The first step is to paint the handprint for the letter O and the two footprints for the letter V in “love.” I put down a mat to protect the floor from paint, sat down with my daughter, and carefully put a little pink paint on her hand to stamp her handprint on the canvas. I placed the handprints and footprints near the bottom center of the canvas so I would have space for the words at the top. After thoroughly wiping the paint off with baby wipes, I repeated the process with each footprint. I let the canvas dry while I washed my daughter’s hands and feet thoroughly in the tub to clean any remaining paint off her skin.
2. Outline the Lettering
Once the paint was dry, I used a pencil to lightly outline the lettering for the words. I wrote the L and E for love on either side of the handprints and footprints to spell “love,” then I wrote “sweet little” above it slightly smaller. I had to gently erase my pencil marks several times to get the words the way I wanted, so I was really glad I used a pencil to outline before I painted!
3. Paint the Lettering
I used aqua and purple paint to carefully paint the letters on top of the pencil outline. I used a very thin paintbrush with aqua paint for the words “sweet little.” Then I used a paintbrush only slightly larger to finish the word “love” with purple paint. I let it dry and was done!
Overall this was a very simple project, and it turned out adorable! I know I will appreciate having her handprints and footprints on this Sweet Little Love handprint canvas, remembering how small she was for years to come. Simple to make at home and so precious!
