My daughter loves looking at pop-up books with me – moving those tiny flaps to reveal a cute addition to the story is just so exciting for her! The only problem we are having, is teaching her to be gentle with the flaps and not to bend them. So I decided to make her a mini pop-up quiet book all about habitats, so she can move the pop-ups without a worry.
This quiet book is small so it’s easy to bring it with us when we’re on the go. As soon as I gave her the mini pop-up quiet book, she was instantly intrigued. We sat together looking at each page while I told her about each habitat and what the animals were called.
I included a ribbon tag element on each page (my daughter loves tags!). She immediately started feeling the tags on each page, along with flipping over pop-up flaps to find the hidden animals. Her favorite page was the forest habitat, with the little owl hidden in the tree. She kept moving that tiny flap to look at the owl – too cute!
Habitats Mini Pop-Up Quiet Book
I’ll walk you through the pages in my habitats mini pop-up quiet book. I included 6 pages total showing six different habitats. Each page is 4.5 inches square. I attached the pages into a book using one of my daughter’s plastic rings through an eyelet in the top corner of each page. Each page has at least one pop-up flap and one ribbon tag element.
The ocean page has two small fish blowing bubbles, and a pink jellyfish with pink ribbon tentacles. A grey felt rock is found along the bottom of the page. The rock is a flap that folds down to reveal a cute little smiling crab.
The pond page has an orange fish and a swimming turtle with ribbon tag feet. Near the top of the page a duck is swimming on the water. On the left side of the page there are a few cattails on a flap hiding two ducklings following their mother duck and a second fish.
On the grasslands page, a lion (with a ribbon tag mane) is sitting by a tree on a flap along the bottom. You can see a giraffe behind him ready to eat from the tree. When you fold down the flap, you see a zebra walking in the grass in front of the giraffe.
The rainforest page has lots of plants and trees. There is a macaw bird and a monkey up in the branches, and two colorful butterflies are flying near the tree tops. Near the bottom there is a bush and a plant made out of ribbon tags. When you fold down the bush, you see a jaguar hiding.
The forest page has a black bear and a hedgehog with ribbon tags for quills. A black felt circle shows a hole in the tree, and when you life the flap you will find a small owl. Up in the trees there is a green flap to lift, revealing a little squirrel.
The desert page has two cactus plants growing under the bright sun (with yellow ribbon tags for sun rays). A fox is standing on the sandy-colored ground near a rock with a quail on it. The rock is a flap which lifts up to reveal a snake hiding behind.
This mini pop-up quiet book is adorable – even cuter than I imagined! I am so glad I made it small so we can bring it with us easily if we’re going out. I also really appreciate the educational aspect of this felt book, because we can talk about animals and where they live!
